I don't know what kind of tank it is, but I can see why nobody ever gets out of one when they get hit.

@CvilleGordo The intellectual detritus of the russians is still settling on our culture like a poison gas. I must say, they are a people who should be carefully attended to. They have a lot to offer, and a great capacity on the take. ('stwere) But I'm done with all that sort of bosh. I'm settling down to be a hobo. I'll let those who are fit to serve die honorably, and I'll snuggle up against the vents with my vodak.

So true, and practically poetic! After 8 years in-country I must say that I wholeheartedly agree that "they have a lot to offer, and a great capacity on the take."
And may your vents always be warm and your bottle never dry.

This undoubtedly is the 2S19 Msta-S, self propelled 152mm howitzer. It has a semi-automatic loading system. Great firepower, the mujahideen were lucky it was developed after Soviet withdrawal from Afghanistan.

The 2S1 Gvozdika, (Russian: 2С1 «Гвоздика», 'Carnation'); is a Soviet 122-mm self-propelled howitzer that resembles the PT-76 but is essentially a lengthened version of the MT-LB APC, mounting the 2A18 howitzer. "2S1" is its GRAU designation. An alternative Russian designation is SAU-122 but in the Russian Army it is commonly known as Gvozdika. The 2S1 is fully amphibious with very little preparation, and once afloat is propelled by its tracks. A variety of wider tracks are More..

@brrrtmn
Yep - I think this is the correct answer.
The loading procedure looks more like it is for a field gun. It would be a bit too cumbersome for a tank.
Must be a mobile field gun.

Glad we never had to fight the Rooskies! That's what we trained for back in my time in the Army, and we knew we would never beat them in a conventional war in Europe. It would have gone nuclear.

Fantastic insight into the operation of such incredible machinery.
Great upload, I've always wondered what it looks like inside self propelled artillery like that.
Thanks for the upload.
