The Broward Sheriff's Office on Thursday released surveillance video of a nighttime holdup in which a robber shot two Subway employees and fled without taking any money.
The shooting victims, Sameer Farooq, 31, and Fawaz Farid, 17, were taken to Broward General Medical Center. Farooq remains there, reportedly in stable condition. Farid was treated and released.
The video was released in hopes someone will step forward with information to make an arrest in what the Sheriff's Office calls a "senseless" crime. The robbery attempt occurred about 10:37 p.m. at the Subway at 2863 W. Sunrise Blvd., in an unincorporated part of Broward County. The eatery is near Lauderhill's Swap Shop.
Surveillance video shows a man entering the restaurant and pointing a gun at Farooq and Farid. The robber asked for a $2 sandwich, but the employees said they didn't have $2 sandwiches.
When the robber demanded cash, the workers complied by opening their register. Still, the robber shot them "for no apparent reason," the Sheriff's Office said. The attacker fled without taking anything.
Authorities ask anyone with information about the man to call sheriff's Detective Tony Hierrezuelo at 954-321-4270, or Broward Crime Stoppers, anonymously, at 954-493-8477.
