Gunman jumps the counter during a Gateway Inn Motel robbery

Savannah-Chatham County,
Police released surveillance video of one of a string of Motel robberies.
In this incident,at a Gateway Inn on Abercorn Street on Dec. 2 clerk Amos Haywood told police he was finishing his shift when the gunman entered the hotel and jumped the counter, wielding a semi-automatic handgun and demanding money.

Haywood, 70, tried to walk to the back office, but the suspect grabbed his shirt and instructed him to open the register, according to a police report.
Haywood complied, and the gunman stole about $200 before fleeing to a nearby wooded area on foot.
A similar chain of events occurred in a Wednesday evening robbery at the Econo Lodge on Abercorn Street.

The suspect robbed hotel clerk Sarah Scardina at gunpoint and escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash. He is also wanted in connection with the November armed robberies of a Suburban Lodge on Abercorn and a Residence Inn on White Bluff Road.

The suspect is described by metro police as about 6 feet 3 inches tall, with a slender build and long dreadlocks.
