  • This occurred at Altiport de Megève in France. The accident report says that it was pilot error, so it's pretty clear there was no mechanical failure. On this aircraft, the gear lever is a little white knob that you move up and down (seen here: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/03/Socata_TB_cockpit.jpg) (it's that white thing under the right side of the left seat's yoke).

These guys had a decent approach starting out with, but as they got closer, they failed to follow an appro More..

  • Looks like landing gear failure. The sound is the raaws (Radar Altimeter and Altitude Warning System) It goes off if they get too close to the ground with gear up. The sound goes to the headsets and those do not block that sound if they were not working. I used to work on planes.

  • The alarm indicates an improper flying configuration. (gear/flaps/speed/throttle)
The pilot thinks it's because the throttle is closed (coasting) while the flaps are down....because of his steep descent.
The pilot expects the alarm to quit as he levels out/slows down and adds/opens throttle.
Just as he starts wondering why the alarm doesn't quit, he figures out why.

  • As a pilot this is just ONE reason of many I fly with one headpnone side off my ear, especially during critical pahases of the flight. You have many senses, use them.

  • Fifty bucks says the pilot was a doctor/surgeon. Forget blondes, they're the worst pilots out there.

  • Loved it when they looked at each other with that 'wtf, it wasn't my job to drop the landing gear' stare

    • @Gavstar75 Thats why a check list is exactly that - a set of procedures you go through with your co-pilot and literally check each one off together once each thing is done.
No real sympathy for 2 pilots with 1000's of hours of experience between them
