F/A-22 Raptor
Fast (super-cruise*) and stealthy, and integrated avionics are cool, but what's really impressive is the F/A-22s low speed stability and maneuverability. In the late 40s and to early 60s aeronautical engineers were going nuts on how to shape intakes to handle both subsonic and super-sonic air flows, without stagnation or compressor stalls. Supersonic in itself was a big challenge because you ha
More..d to use shock waves to slow the intake air mass to sub-sonic before it hit the compressor blades, or they would stall. The engineers figured it out, but the solution was keeping a lot of air going in the front end to make sure the all hot air kept going out the back end. As you watch this Mach 2 airplane suspend motionless in air and do tail slides, be aware of the truly amazing performance of the engines and intakes. Less..

That is great flying, from a highly advanced aircraft, and an outstanding pilot.

****in amazing maneuverability there. This isn't even taking into account its BVR capabilities. The Russians better get to work if they want to stand a chance against this!

Highly impressive. To all those who keep saying Americans are dumb, watch this a few times - and to all those who say American cars suck, maybe it's because our top engineers are working on things like this instead of the cars that other country's top engineers work on...

Amazing. To see it for real is heartstopping. Prolly the last fighter that will have a human pilot in it.

Too damned expensive to be of use. Like the B-2.

The SU-37 can fly circles around the F-22, but the raptor can see its prey from so much farther away.

how often do we need a huge ass stealth bomber in iraq..

This is blasphemous, i know, but while this aircraft represents an incredible amount of development and progress, given the relatively short history of powered flight, it still seems somewhat anemic in performance on a more 'absolute' scale. Probably from watching too much tv and Haitian UFO hoaxes, but i just think that once we get a handle on how to manipulate the more elemental forces of our environment, we're going to see methods of transport that make this look like a steam locomotive.

would never be flown in a war as far too expensive to lose in any numbers -I predict it will be mothballed within 5 years

This video pretty much proves that's not true. The F22 can do almost everything the SU-37 can and it can do it with perfect control at every step. Most impressively, it remains highly maneuverable at supersonic speeds, which is not true for the great majority of modern fighters. Only the Eurofighter and maybe the SU-37 has the same capability, and that's something they can't show at an airshow.

Are you blind? This jet would destroy any military plane in the sky including close combat. Its pure wishful thinking as we can see you are just envious of this fighter.
