WTF is this tree???
What should I call this fruit? Fig-simmon?
BTW, the texture is nothing like a Persimmon - it's more like a date

I think George Washington chopped one of those down and became Prez soon after. Get that Stihl fired up, Rick.

"Stihl" or "Still"? Both can be fired up! But I'm going with the latter.
Actually, I was considering making something from them but I'm not much on baking. Fermenting them might be really cool! I still have some dimmyjohns from when I made wine in CA...

Is a Persimmon allowed to Date a Fig? That would make them fruits. And you think French is strange...

Well, I think I am. Also, there's a second similar-looking tree nearby that can be seen to the left. That second one is about a year younger.

Are they not Tamarillos?
The South American delicacy is said to act like female hormones when eaten; symptoms include breast growth, a heightened need to shave critical areas, monthly mood swings and a fixation about cooking and cooking videos. >:)

Call your county extension office. They may have an agent who is a botanist.
It very well could be a cross between two. My Grandfather used to graft different apples to trees, and plumbs onto cherry trees, etc. It is possible that nature did it itself.

My Dad was like your Grandfather. He was a Horticulturist. He experimented with grafting all sorts of fruit and nut trees. He's no longer alive or I'd ask him.
I may call the extension office. Wish I thought about it when the fruit was green (I could have mailed a sample in). I was so sure the fruit would be awful-tasting, I had no interest in the tree until yesterday when I tried one.
