Researchers at Simon Fraser University in British Columbia placed a pig carcass in a cage 300 meters under water in order to observe its decomposition over time. The cage was meant to keep out large scavengers, so that the action of smaller animals (such as the sea lice prevalent in the early stages) could be observed.
