Raw Aerial; High Speed Pursuit Ends in Fiery Crash

DETROIT - A police chase on Detroit's west side ended in a fiery and deadly explosion Thursday morning.

Michigan State Police confirm that a man driving a pickup truck traveling on Michigan Avenue died after his vehicle struck a minivan as it passed through an intersection just before 7 a.m., sideswiped another vehicle and slammed into a utility pole before exploding.

SkyFOX was overhead and captured video of the crash. The pickup was immediately engulfed in flames in a front of the Telway restaurant.

Police say the minivan driver sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital. Click here to watch an interview the Telway owner.

Fire and rescue crews extinguished the fire and later covered the pickup with a tarp.

FOX 2's Lee Thomas reports that the chase started in Taylor after a report of a stolen vehicle in Monroe. The chase continued through several westside streets.

  • But you really have to ask youself.....WTF was the driver of that minivan thinking.....If anyone with a brain saw a bunch of police cars pursuing a car at high speed coming towards them....who the f*ck would turn right into them. You really have to have your head buried in your ass.......$20 bucks says she voted or Obama.

  • I bet the perp would be willing to trade that result for one where the cops tazed him, if he could.

  • This just in; Pres. Obama, while admitting he doesn't have all the facts, says it's clear the minivan driver "acted stupidly".

    • No he didn't. He just showed the world that the President of the United States isn't above being a racist. That's all he did. K, bye now.

    • a failed attempt at a political troll......the minivan driver turned left on a red light......you can bet the car thief's family will be suing for wrongful death......

  • Goes to show that the right of way is not necessarily determined by a green light.

    Posted Aug-13-2009 By

  • and the truck actually had the right of way...

  • Damn, what an idiot! Sorry for the minivan-soccer mom, and happy it didn't involve more people!

Would have been better if the assbag had rolled the pickup on a deserted road!

  • ...Am i crazy? The minivan was wrong all day long. The guy running had a green light and the minivan guy turned right in front of him causing the accident.

    • they both had green, the minivan probably didn't expect the truck to be speeding so they thought they had time to turn left, little did they know they were about to PWN the shit out of the truck, truck driver totally got what was coming with that easy mistake

    • You are kidding, right? The fool running from the police caused his own death, the mini-van merely contributed to it. For some folks it is hard to judge speed when cars come at you. Big cars appear to move slower while little cars appear fasters. The truck was driving around sixty to seventy miles an hour.

  • The red van failed to yield to on coming traffic on a green light! Arrest him for attempted vehicular homicide.

  • The minivan soccer mom caused the accident. The guy in the pickup (who is dead now) actually had the green light.

  • Typical minivan driver. Pulls out all slow in front of a vehicle.

  • The pickup driver had GREEN Light.. They driver of the red minivan should be held responsible for killing the escaping driver. I would like to have 2 miniguns on my car like in "Death Race" to clean my way from such human waste as the driver of the red minivan....

    • It looks like its a "Left Turn Yield on Green" intersection. Which means that the van CAN turn left if there is nobody coming. Obviously somebody was coming, but at high speeds which is why Im sure they misjudged how far away the truck actually was. Fault would go to the dipshit driving a stolen vehicle being chased by the cops.

      Posted Aug-13-2009 By

      (1)

    • im with you on the sentiments.....if the dipshit never stole the truck none of this would of happened but as far as the courts are concerned....this is vehicular homicide.....i doubt the minivan driver will be charged in criminal court because of the extenuating circumstances but i guarantee they will probably loose everything they own and ever will own in a civil case filed by the car thief's family.

its stupid and ridiculous but it will probably happen...personally i think that they need to More..
