MSNBC's Contessa Brewer Pleads for Government to Force Environmentalism

During Monday's12PM ET hour on MSNBC, liberal shrew and anchor Contessa Brewer helped promote the network's "Green is Progress" week by demanding greater government intervention to force people to follow an environmentalist agenda: "Until government says these are the standards that everyone has to aspire to, we're not really making progress."

    • Just like oil being gone before the year 2,000. Just like overpopulation causing global famine by the year 2,000. Just like Global-Warming is going to drown us all. etc. etc.

You've cried wolf too many times. You're very impressionable.

    • Yeah there a couple killer ice-age scares of the 20th century. And killer bees... SARS, swine flu, bird flu, h1n1. Flesh eating bacteria was going to wipe out our entire eco-system at one point. Acid rain was going to wipe out all the plant life on Earth.

These hysterias and the panics they cause kill more people than the actual "epidemics" themselves do.

I wonder how many people there are in rural mountain bomb-shelters hiding from the y2k apocalypse?

    • because their left winged shit is needed to balance out FOXS's right winged shit.....god forbid we could get unbiased news reporting but "nationally syndicated news agency" and "non biased news reporting" are oxymoron's, noone wants to piss off the sponsors.

    • c'mon now, the sponsers are there because people watch. If we don't watch and turn to "non-biased" sources the sponsers would find their way to them as well. This is still somewhat a market economy.

the sad fact is that people enjoy and relish in their bias, many let it define them, both on the left and the right. we demand it, they just give it to us.

  • Earth to Contessa Brewer, Government cannot legislate prosperity.

When government dictates conditions of living. Its one breath away from totalitarianism. Do you want government to tell you what to do, how to live, what job you can have.
Is this the direction of networks like MSNBC and CNN. a Soviet Union style of government. I think, the use of today's environmental issues is the backdoor of totalitarian government. They couldn't win at the ballot box, so they found a way to use environmen More..

  • What these asses dont realize is this environmental movement stops progress which would eventually get us to a point where we can replace oil with better tech. This is not the time.We cannot afford to keep going with all the inefficiency of going green. For example.we grow corn for makeing fuel.We make less food grade and cattle grade corn,so those prices go up.The corn the grow for fuel is expensive and uses fertilizer, crop space, and raises the price of food and fuel, which has to transport it to More..

  • Both of these pampered girlies can ram "green/global warming" up their cute asses. The Fed, state and local governments come up with more bullshit laws every year and all it means is higher costs for us and more trouble to go through. However, i do believe in at least knowing the laws before ignoring them, so when the new state laws are posted in the Los Angeles times and on the net at the beginning of the year i make sure to read them.

  • Oil companies are fined huge amounts of money when endangered or protected birds land in an oil pond and die. Electric companies are the same, when a bird finds it's way in to a transformer station and is killed.

But wind farms kills thousands of times more of these exact same birds. Never any fines.

    • Nobody disagrees that toxic waste dumping should be a crime. It's an empty point you're trying to make with that. There are things we need the EPA for, obviously what you describe is one of them. Telling me what kind of lightbulb I'm allowed to own isn't one of them. Taxing me to fend of imaginary Manbearpig isn't one of them.

Would you prefer that people be allowed to use DDT? Or, do you prefer that the many many millions of resulting dead Africans are worth the cost?

    • very true but being people that live in a country as fortunate as the ones we are in we have no excuse to not spend the extra few dollars for a better light bulb and we should be more alert about how long we take showers etc.... really though these things are common sense right? The fact that you would have to make people to want to consume less and save energy etc goes to show the selfish culture we have created here....

    • What about people who get migraines from fluorescent lights? What about people who don't want to breath mercury vapor every time they accidentally break a light bulb?

Most of the "green" crap is not even green in the first place. A Prius does far far more damage to the environment than a normal small car does. They're toxic. To make the batteries, the mine the metals and produce the chemicals, it's far more destructive to the environment than owning a Geo Metro or something.

    • Yea I remember hearing about the problems of using ethanol etc.... So the carbon footprint outweighs a regular car because of the materials need for the battery? Funny but shitty at the same time lol. I also hate floros, the ones at work are brutal but the ones I use at home are fine with a lampshade etc....
Also with windmills I have heard of people that live near them complaining they reduce quality of life with unproven health problems etc that are emerging. I am all about saving the environm More..

    • "So the carbon footprint outweighs a regular car because of the materials need for the battery?"

No no, not carbon footprint (CO2 is not poison anyway, it's plant food). They're just incredibly toxic to produce. Nickel is mined mostly in Canada I believe, and shipped to China where environmental regulations are non-existent, and it's processed there. It creates a lot of very toxic waste. Far worse for the environment than a little four cylinder.
