Mitt Romney would restore "Anglo-Saxon" understanding to the special relationship between the US and Britain, and return Sir Winston Churchill's bust to the White House.
As the Republican presidential challenger accused Barack Obama of appeasing America’s enemies in his first foreign policy speech of the election campaign, advisers told The Daily Telegraph that he would abandon Mr Obama’s “Left-wing” coolness towards London.
In remarks that may prompt accusations of racial insensitivity, one suggested Mr Romney was better placed to understand the ties between the countries than Mr Obama, whose father was from Africa. “We are part of an Anglo-Saxon heritage, and he feels that the special relationship is special,” the adviser said of Mr Romney, adding: “The White House didn’t fully appreciate the shared history we have.”
Mr Romney today embarks on an overseas tour of Britain, Israel and Poland designed to quash claims by Mr Obama’s team that he is a “novice” in foreign affairs. It comes four years after Mr Obama’s own landmark foreign tour, which attracted thousands of supporters.
He lands in London today in advance of meetings with David Cameron and other senior ministers tomorrow. He will also meet Ed Miliband and Tony Blair before attending two fund-raisers and the opening ceremony of the Olympics.
He used a speech last night in Nevada to accuse the US President of drastically weakening America’s stance towards rivals such as Russia, China and Iran while imposing “devastating” spending cuts on US forces.
“If you do not want America to be the strongest nation on earth, I am not your president,” he told the Veterans of Foreign Wars. “You have that president today.” Promising another “American century” in which the US does not hesitate to “wield our strength”, he said: “I will not surrender America’s leadership in the world.”
One member of the former Massachusetts governor’s foreign policy team said: “In contrast to President Obama, whose first instinct is to reach out to America’s adversaries, the Governor’s first impulse is to consult and coordinate and to move closer to our friends and allies overseas so they can rely on American constancy and strength,” one said.
“Obama is a Left-winger,” said another. “He doesn’t value the Nato alliance as much, he’s very comfortable with American decline and the traditional alliances don’t mean as much to him. He wouldn’t like singing 'Land of Hope and Glory’.”
The two advisers said Mr Romney would seek to reinstate the Churchill bust displayed in the Oval Office by George W Bush but returned to British diplomats by Mr Obama when he took office in 2009. One said Mr Romney viewed the move as “symbolically important” while the other said it was “just for starters”.
Mr Obama appears less interested in relations with London than Mr Bush, despite a change in tone reflected by the welcome extended to Mr Cameron in March. British diplomats remain frustrated by their “transactional” relationship with the White House and lack of support on issues such as the Falkland Islands.
Mr Romney has not made any commitments on the Falklands, but several in his foreign policy team favour backing Britain and rejecting claims of sovereignty by Christina Kirchner, the Argentine president. Under Mr Obama the US is neutral.
The advisers said Mr Cameron and Mr Romney, who is advised by several former Bush aides, shared a seriousness towards the threats of Islamist terrorism, a nuclear-armed Iran and the challenging consequences of the Arab Spring.
Mr Romney has pledged to stop Iran obtaining a nuclear weapon, threatening military action more stridently than Mr Obama. He said yesterday that only a “complete cessation” of uranium enrichment by Iran was satisfactory – a stronger demand than the White House’s.
After leaving London, he will deliver a speech in Jerusalem on Sunday, again threatening Iran and criticising Mr Obama for declining to visit Israel. The advisers spoke on the condition of anonymity because Mr Romney’s campaign requested that they not criticise the president to foreign media.----

Racial insensitivity? Like when the NAACP covered up a statue of George Washington on MLK day last year? FBHO.

@pachaKamaq You do realize Washington owned slaves?

@hellgremlin It's a little more complicated than that, but, since you're a leftist we won't risk exploding your head with an explanation.

@Roll1981 No, it's not complicated at all.
People walking during a rally to celebrate black freedom don't want to see a statue of a slavedriver on their route.

@hellgremlin That's very pious and holier-than-thou of you, but if you were in George Washington's shoes you'd have probably been a thousand times worse. He freed his slaves. And he played a major part in seeing to it that slavery would be eradicated completely, which it was, in the blink of an eye in historical time. The most difficult part of ending the slave trade was getting the African kingdoms that specialized in hunting and capturing their fellow Africans to stop doing it.

@Roll1981 He freed his slaves... on his deathbed.
If someone's kept you in a cage all your life, and decides to let you out when they're dying... are they really a liberator?

I have no problem with maintaining close relations with the UK, but it appears that Romney is shaping up to be another interventionalist warmonger. No surprise there. And all this talk about Obama being "weak" on foreign affairs is a lot of horseshit. The fact of the matter is US Middle East foreign policy has changed little over the years and it will remain that way as long as establishment politicans from either side of the isle continue to be elected.

@WolfBite120 Believing in building and maintaining a strong military and presense in the world doesn't automatically equate to "interventionalist warmonger."

@Roll1981
Sure it does. Our military is supposed to do one thing, defend our borders and national soverignty. Yet here we are droping bombs on Libya and sending warships to Asia and the Persian Gulf just to flex our muscles and stir up trouble. Not to mention our military being based in several Middle Eastern nations proping up despotic monarchies. And people wonder why Saudis were involved with 9/11.

@WolfBite120 We have these things called treaties and doctrines. Such as NATO and the Monroe Doctrine. Our interests as a nation extend beyond our borders. Whether fighting pirates or communists/fascists.

Haha, Rmoney, what a dumb cunt. "Obama is appeasing our enemies" riiiight. He appeased the shit out of Bin Laden, didn't he...

@hellgremlin
Don't play that card.
The operation that killed bin Laden was carried out using tons of intelligence gathered during the Bush administration, to which Bush recieved no credit.
And you and I know both know that many Americans, including Bush would've made the same call that Obama did.
Oh yeah, and then Obama has the class and maturity (that we would only expect out of him!) to then use the successful operation as poltical ammunition for months on end.
Don't try to sell Oba More..

@cswartz Hmm, a weakling... who helped liberate Libya, ended Iraq, and will end Afghanistan in 2014. Gotcha.
Face it bud. Your last guy was a colossal failure. Two pointless wars (Iraq/Afg), pushing North Korea toward nukes, and an inability to catch Bin Laden. Obama is a hundred times the leader any Republican could be.
Now you're still sore about what a TITANIC FAILURE Bush was, and are trying to paint Obama in the same light - but it just won't work, because he's actually successful.

@hellgremlin
NATO did most of the bombing in Libya and the drawdown in Iraq was already agreed upon with the Iraqi PM when Bush was in office. As for Afghanistan, Obama did negotiate that, albeit a lot of the work was already done for him.
The war in Afghanistan was pointless? Ughhh...al-Queda who launched the Sept. 11th attacks was based there. And almost every intelligence organization in the world thought that Sadaam Hussein has nukes because he had used chemical weapons on his own people More..

Don't you know how this works? Bush gets ALL the credit on foreign policy successes, and but holds NO responsibility for the economy. Remember when Rush Limpbag bellowed, 3 minutes after Obama was sworn in... "it's the Obama recession now".

Republicans have no chance of restoring anything. The British public hate the right wing in america. The majority of the western world felt closer to America after bush left office and Obama and many of his ideologies brought the USA closer to many of the western world again.
Romney wouldn't do this
