Syrian rebels took control on Tuesday of Maaret al-Numan, a
strategic Idlib province town on the highway linking Damascus with the
country's second city, Aleppo, according to the Syrian Observatory for
Human Rights (SOHR). "Regular forces pulled back from all of
their checkpoints around Maaret al-Numan, except for one at the entrance
of the town," the UK-based opposition network's Rami Abdel Rahman
said. "This is a strategic location on the route from Damascus to
Aleppo. All the regime reinforcements headed to Aleppo must pass
through Maaret al-Numan." Opposition activists told Al Jazeera
that rebel fighters had captured most of the army's checkpoints in the
area, but that fighting was still under way for other government
positions on Tuesday night.

Al Jazeera's Nasser Shadeed is with rebel fighters and
reporting live from Maarat al-Numan in Idlib province where fighting is
underway with government forces (translated from Arabic):"At the
moment, the rebels are not fully in control of Maarat al-Numan. There
are ongoing clashes at three remaining checkpoints out of 12 that
surround the city and protect Syrian military bases of Mamidiya and Wadi
al-Daif. Just short while ago, a fighter plane shelled the area and we
are waiting for details of where exactly the target was. We also heard
shelling in the village of Maar Shamshe."… Some soldiers
surrendered and some defected. Those who are now in rebel custody will
be questioned and trials are expected, the rebels have said that there
will be no executions."

  • They are all wearing Saudi uniform. They are trying to push to Lattikia and Tartus. But a nasty surprise awaits them. Let them gather and we will kill them wholesale.

  • How's come Assad wont let journalists inside Syria to document what these "armed terrorist groups" are doing to the country?

Shit...Saddam, Ghadaffi, and most other dictators let outside media cover their wars....only journalists I've seen in Syria are from their Puppet Master Irans propaganda media source, PressTv. That alone speaks volumes.

Is he hiding something or what?

    • @MadMike740
You answered your own question. Saddam and Gaddafi let journalists in and see what happened to them? They were judged internationally by the media and then later we found out we'd been lied to left, right and centre.
When are morons going to get the idea that our media is tainted with lies, lies, and more lies. It is simply a propaganda outlet for the powers that be.
