‘Baby M’ – a toddler allegedly abused by her parents, was laid to rest Saturday afternoon.

Dozens gathered at a north Edmonton mosque Saturday for the baby’s funeral.

Two-year-old 'M,' who cannot be identified, was carried in a small pink casket.

The child’s parents – who are in custody facing charges of aggravated
assault, criminal negligence causing bodily harm and failing to provide
the necessities of life - were allowed to attend the funeral, escorted
by sheriffs.

‘M’ died Thursday after being taken off life support. She had been on a
ventilator since she and her twin sister were found severely
underweight and malnourished – then taken to hospital in May. ‘M’ had
suffered a life-threatening head injury.

Another little boy was also found in the house – he is currently in foster care.

M had been at the centre of a court battle for much of last week, after
a judge ordered the toddler be removed from life support. Her parents
had appealed the order, taking it to the Supreme Court – but their
appeal was dismissed and M died after being taken off life support on
Thursday.

The charges her parents face could be upgraded or additional charges could be added, now that ‘M’ has died.

A bail review for the parents has been scheduled for October 18.
