The Basque separatist group ETA has carried out its first bombing since warning of a renewed campaign in Spain. A telephone call was made around midnight to a television station, saying a bomb had been planted outside a court building in the town of Sestao.
Police had time to clear the area before the device exploded. On the website of a Basque newspaper, ETA had warned that it would act against the "forces and repressive apparatus of the Spanish state".
ETA has killed more than 800 people in its four-decade-long armed campaign for Basque independence. The latest killings were of two Spanish policemen in France earlier this month.
Raul Centeno and Fernando Trapero had been working undercover when they were allegedly gunned-down by ETA commandos in broad daylight.
