I don't know anything about the laws in Australia, but here's some info (NOT my source) about the "P" you will see in the bonet:
"In Australia there are provisional licenses issued to new drivers. Red P is P1 and maximum allowed speed is 90kmh and is the frist section of a license and Green P is P2 license and maximum speed is 100kmh.A driver must hold P plates for 3 years before they can get a full unrestricted license. If the license holder is under 25 they must have a special permit before they can drive a turbo charged car or anything with a v8 engine. If this guy didnt have that permit,he can be deemed to be unlicensed and uninsured which all means 1 very expensive bill."
