Original on third photo of survivors:
"Zep survivors show blast horror! Stunned by their narrow escape from death and showing the horror of the sudden blast which destroyed the giant dirigible Hindenburg, these survivors are rushed to a first aid station. The ship was landing at the Lakehurst Trans-Atlantic Zeppelin Dock when the explosion occurred. Thousands of persons, friends and relatives of passengers included, witnessed the tragedy."
LZ 129 Hindenburg (Luftschiff Zeppelin #129)
After making its first South America flight of the 1937 season in late March, the Hindenburg left Frankfurt for Lakehurst, New Jersey on the evening of 3 May on its first scheduled round trip between Europe and the United States that year. Although strong headwinds slowed the crossing, the flight had otherwise proceeded routinely as it approached for a landing three days later.
Around 7:00 p.m. local time on 6 May, at an altitude of 650 feet (200 m), the Hindenburg with Captain Max Pruss at the helm approached Naval Air Station Lakehurst and prepared to land. Twenty-five minutes later, the airship caught fire and quickly became completely engulfed in flames in only 37 seconds (since hydrogen gas is extremely flammable). The location of the initial fire, the source of ignition, and the initial source of fuel remain subjects of debate. Of the 36 passengers and 61 crew on board, 13 passengers and 22 crew died. One member of the ground crew was also killed, making a total of 36 lives lost in the disaster.

unfortunately not true. A couple of years ago a german company invested half a billion into building the largest Zeppelin ever to be used in construction works. The project was never finished. Main problem is the instability to wind. The incredibly huge hall in which it was supposed to be built is now a huge water&swimming entertainment park. And they cant even fill a fraction of it. Now you can imagine the size.

Is no one going to say the Nazis planned this 'disaster' themselves in order to justify - um, a war against - erm - hydrogen...?
Or do we accept that - sometimes - when bad things happen, there isn't necessarily a conspiracy behind them?
I suppose if it had been an Israeli airship...
