The British Prime Minister has been left red-faced after he absent-mindedly left his eight-year-old daughter in the pub after a Sunday lunch.

David Cameron had been dining with family and friends at the Plough Inn in the village of Cadsden, northwest of London, The Sun reports.

Mr Cameron and his wife Samantha did not realise they had left eight-year-old Nancy in the pub's toilet until they got back home.

"The PM and Samantha were distraught when they realised Nancy wasn’t with them," a spokesperson said.

"Thankfully when they phoned the pub, she was there safe and well.

"The PM went down straight away to get her."

Mr Cameron had been dining with his wife, three children and two other families before the group had headed home in two separate cars.

He had assumed Nancy was in the second car with his wife, while Mrs Cameron thought the girl was with him.
