My Lai Massacre – Vietnam, 500 civilians slaughtered by Americans
Part of channel(s): Afghanistan (current event)

The recent Americans who slaughtered 17 Afghans, has been described as a one off event, but it most certainly isn’t. The war propaganda is not much different than it’s ever been. This clip is about a similar, but much bigger massacre that I bet most here have never even heard of.

In 16 March 1968, American troops came into the local village around My Lai, Vietnam, and massacred up to 500 civilians, nearly all of them were women, children, babies and old men. None of them armed, and all passive civilians. Many were brutally mutilated as well. Even all the animals were slaughtered, even pets.

After this horrific event, the US military tried to cover this all up. The truth eventually got out, but only one officer was jailed and only for 3.5 years, and he’s not the one in this video which is pretty amazing when you watch this guys sick confession to what he did that day.

The village in this video lost over 100 civilians, but in total for the whole area, up to 500 innocents were brutally massacred.

What happened recently in Afghanistan was not a one off event and was not a lone killer as witnesses testify, but just one more war propaganda cover-up of sick events.

There is another clip with some graphic images which covered the only person jailed for this event: http://www.youtube.com/v/xqPEzc5CWno

General background: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/7298533.stm

UPDATE – Some posters claim there was only “one killer” in the recent civilian slayings in Afghanistan, so I’m linking to new information that shows there were more, and it’s been covered up as most massacres are for political reasons. I hope some of the more evasive viewers will deal with the uncomfortable facts and stop trying to shoot the messenger.

  • "The recent Americans who slaughtered 17 Afghans, has been described as a one off event, but it most certainly isn’t."

It isn't? You mean, massacres like this happen everyday in Afghanistan and Iraq? That's news to me.

"This clip is about a similar, but much bigger massacre that I bet most here have never even heard of."

My Lai is probably one of the most well-known events from the Vietnam War. It ranks right up there with the Tet Offensive and the bombing of Cambodia.

    • @The Gentleman Poster

You are incorrect. I posted it to show that sick people do sick things, and they are often deliberately done when in the military, and covered up if they can get away with it. That is life. Your straw man of "the norm" and "everyday" is a logical fallacy and your reply borders on ad hominem. Attacking me will not justify the totally needless sick acts of others or justify their cowardly cover-up attempts.

If you posted this because you want to show that 'sick people do sick things' then show us all of the sick despicable acts that the talibs and their cohorts have committed as well.

How many US civilians has the Taliban killed? Just look at Iraq too, the US had already murdered 500,000 children and babies before they invaded Iraq and you talk about death figures?

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4PgpbQfxgo

Far more Afghan and Iraqi civilians have been killed than US military in both countries, and how does your little red herring change what happened in Vietnam? It doesn’t, it just shows you are not mature enough to deal with it without resorting t More..

  • Not sure of the point your trying to make but if it's to make some comparison to suggest that there was more than 1 person in the afghan incident then your post is rediculous at best.

  • It's a WAR sometimes people just go off, we bombed Dresden Germany a non-military target and fried over 40,000 civilians in WWII and no one is whining about that.

More anti American blather from the loony left.

Let me know when you start criticizing Mao or Stalin or Pol Pot your genocidal heroes.

    • @Moore Slayer

I've criticised Mao and Stalin many times as well as all the Jew commies if you'd bothered to check your facts before you decided to call me "loony left".

It was closer to 300,000 civilians murdered in Dresden, and well over 1 million in Japan with all the civilians fire bombed and nuked, plus well over 1 million Germans starved to death and murdered by Americans post WWII in peacetime. But does any of that reduce the severity of the inhuman face to face evil shown in More..

So what? American woman and children were manufacturing ammunition and war machines to bomb the innocents in Dresden. What's your point?

  • Yes, My Lai was a horrible mistake. I've been to the site and it is a terrible and tragic story. The US platoon leader flipped out -- the soldiers who knew it was wrong risked their lives as well to help stop the killing -- albeit too late.

However, you must remember that EVERY village and city that the Viet Cong communists entered was a My Lai. The communists would gather the educated, the teachers, the leaders, and the wealthiest of EVERY village they entered -- and kill them. The communi More..

    • @davidlamb12 people are only critical of the humane side. Yeah America burned some korans, but we didn't trick young children into becoming suicide bombers. But we are ridiculed for burning a book full of opinions.

  • Not our finest hour. War is hell, and it always will be.

You should probably also mention Hugh Thompson, Jr., who risked his own life to save innocent civilians:

Yea, American re-education camps are teaching all of these stories.

Instead, we have to read about Anne Frank. Fuck that.

    • @mphatik anne frank was 5th grade. it was a senseless war, I don't think anyone can really disagree with that. my high school history teacher was in vietnam and he really hammered home the point that you need to question your government as much as possible when it tries to send you to die. 9/11 happened my senior year, in his homeroom. he probably knew the direction we were heading after that. most of my friends joined up anyway

And those who act and think as you speak will rot in hell for eternity if they don't repent before they die, but that is your and their choice. Your crass lack of compassion for human life and suffering will return to you and your loved ones. You will reap what you sow as is already happening in the US with its brutal Police State in full construction phase.

  • I didn't bother to watch this video, but I know one American helicopter pilot put his chopper between these American soldier and the civilians in a effort to save some of the them. According to my first sergeant, the pilot told the door gunner to shoot any American soldier who attempted to get past his chopper. He hovered around the village until he RTB for fuel.
