Didn't have GPS in my dad's Cessnas, had to do the math and identify land marks, if the weather was bad enough I suppose he'd swallow his pride and ask someone at ATC.

Not many people know this, but Bruce Dickenson is a highly regarded aviation expert. The Discovery Channel has used him as a consultant on a few shows. He also owns a 727 that he flies his band in to gigs.
