@Tommyr
I'm with ya. I think we all wanted to be astronauts for a while there. Until the rock and roll kicked in, anyway. ;-)

They must think the retroreflectors that are visible from earth and used for lunar range checking where placed by alians.

Truly amazing. I always wondered what the boulder-field that forced Neil Armstrong to fly the LEM further than expected looked like!

You can see the point Neil realises the programmed descent will put them in a field of craters and starts flying along the surface searching for a clear landing spot.
The most epic piece of flying since Orville in the Flyer.
Please forget the wars and do this...I think Afghanistan has cost about 10 Apollos or something now...fucking depressing...

WOW!.. That was very cool.
BTW, has anyone ever seen this?
<edit> Well, it looks like that web site is down for a bit.
Anyway, it was the speech that was prepared in case something went wrong.
------
The following speech, revealed in 1999, was prepared by Nixon’s then speechwriter, William Safire, to be used in the event of a disaster that would maroon the astronauts on the moon.
The speech was sent to Pres More..

Brilliant!!! You can almost get inside Armstrong's head as he picked out his best choice for a landing site. I'd like to see LRO imagery of all the landing sites at this scale...

Cool stuff, I find the original missions and imagery much more impressive than the tokens of today. In 2012 with all the latest and greatest tech, image mapping missions and the like we still have inferior moon resolution compared to the 60s for some weird reason.....
