Even in a 9.0 earthquake, these people were able to hold the camera still, and NOT in portrait. Not like some of the idiots we see filming something as mundane as a street fight who seem to be jumping from tree branch to tree branch as they yell "World star hip hop!"

p.s. if this was Pakistan, there would've been two million dead. Kudos to the engineering.

Exactly and hati, but just think back 100 years ago? These same japanese people were being massacred by earthquakes. But not Human Engineering can stop a tsunami and i think nothing ever will.

@DarthVantos The problem with earthquakes is that they happen in frequently. The engineers try out things but until a structure is tested by a earthquake there are no guarantees. But with every earthquake and failure improvements will be made.

My mother was supposed to be in Sendai on the day of the quake, but she canceled last minute because she had a bad feeling (stayed in Tokyo). We lost several family friends and many others that lost their homes and businesses. Japan is and will always be in my heart. <3

The world could learn a lesson from japan. People are mostly calm considering the earth is bucking them right off their feet during a major quake and secondly, almost anywhere else in the world, buildings would fall straight to the ground in a 9.0 quake. We had a 7.0 quake here in Aptos, Ca in 1989 and that was angry planet lite compared to what happens in Japan of a regular basis.

@roy There's nothing that scares me more than earthquake. Greece does have earthquakes. Not like Japan, but we're over an active fault. We get a ~4-5 richters on average, once a year or so, but still... The day that happens, I want to sleep out in the countryside :P No matter that the building meets the criteria/specifications ( Southern Europe's standards ).
A few months ago happened ( 4.4R ), and I was the only one that was wandering in the neighborhood 3am like a bum. After half an hour o More..

That was the scariest day of my life. Our office on the 13th floor was rocking like f*ck. My computer monitors swooshed across my desk -- I clung for dear life to the holes in the desk that act as wire conduits. The shaking continued for what seemed like an eternity -- at least 4 minutes. Some colleagues let out the odd yelp, but most of us just prayed.
If there is an irony, it's that only a dozen or so people died in that 9.0 quake. It was the tsunami that wiped us out, literally.
