This current situation has everything to do with western powers carving up the M/E to suit their own whims, creating countries with no regard to tribal, ethnic, or religious demographics...or perhaps that was the idea. And then supporting dictators and in the case of Iran, the US overthrowing their democracy in the 1950s and installing our dictator the shah. Europe has only been 'at peace' with itself for a few decades now.

  • Very depressing. Sufis are practically the only cool thing about Islam. Pretty soon the ancient pre-Roman archeological sights in Syria and Lebanon will be gutted by the extremists. Think of all the ancient cultural artifacts lost in Iraq because of looting. NATO can't be blamed for the Buddhas destroyed in Afghanistan or the Sufi temples recently destroyed in Timbuktu though.
