Fred Flintstone is alive and well and driving through Michigan

A 24-year-old motorist with faulty brakes but determined to get home took a driving cue from Fred Flintstone -- using his feet –- but caused a pair of collisions, Roseville police said Thursday.
A patrol officer pulled alongside as they neared Utica Road and yelled at the man to shift the transmission into park. The pickup’s gears grinded but the pickup didn’t stop. Hoping to avoid a rear-end collision as he approached the red traffic signal, the Warren man tried to squeeze between the vehicle in front of him but struck it and a southbound vehicle.

Questioned by officers, the man said he works as a roofer and had to get to work the next day so that he would not disappoint his customers. The man passed field sobriety tests but claimed he was overly tired, police said.

“He said he was going to fix the brakes when he got home,” Berlin said.

The man, whose name was not immediately divulged by police pending his arraignment, was arrested for driving while his license was suspended, and reckless driving. He later bonded out of jail after posting $500 interim bond.

The man is slated to face a judge in September “to explain his moronic decision making,” Berlin said.
