This time-lapse video shows the erection of the suspension portion of
the new Bay Bridge East Span, compressing the complex, labor-intensive,
round-the-clock three-year effort into a fast-paced 2.5 minutes. The sun
rises and sets more than 1,000 times as crews and equipment race
against the clock and endure all types of weather to assemble the
self-anchored suspension span (SAS), with its soaring tower and graceful
canopy of cables. The video shows the process step by step, including
the installation of the steel deck pieces, the construction of a roadway
connection to Yerba Buena Island, the erection of the tower piece by
piece, the hanging of the catwalks from the top of the tower and the
stringing of the main cable soon thereafter, the hanging of the vertical
cables, and finally, the transferring of the bridge's load to the cable
system — all while a steady stream of cars zip along the old East Span
just to the south of the construction zone. Set to an original score,
the time lapse provides a window into the intense activity involved in
building this engineering masterpiece, which is set to open in the late
summer of 2013.

Complete corruption of mind/heart has little to do with intelligence. The opposite could be said, as in "ignorance is bliss."
Surely joyful existence and joyful co-existence has little to with cleverness and our ability to assemble material things.

@TMoray1 I knew someone would say something..... there was still tons of US jobs to build it as you see, but the imported parts were made in China to SAVE THE TAX PAYERS hundreds of millions of dollars. The world is global now, forget the thinking ways of "your nation and our nation" we need to start thinking as "this is our planet". With internet and planes, we are all connected one way or another depending on supply and demand of items in certain areas, and cheaper labor co More..

@bearbaiter The one good thing I can say about the unions, is that once they and their parasitic claws get wrapped around Chinese labor, which will happen sure enough, there won't be any need to outsource any longer.

Chinese steel was used for that bridge. So much for Union Labor.

Any money that arrives in the hand of workers makes the US prosper. But the problem are your 1% highest wages that do not want to share ANYTHING, except of a few guys with moral like W. Buffett.

They have giant fans on the Hand-fist Crisco side that divert The City's heady smell of urine, semen, turds, blood and earwax, in order to keep tourists from trying to make a u-turn on the bridge.

It's a good thing this wasn't a union project. They would have to speed it up 1000000 times to see any sort of movement at all...
