@wormhole The whole 'checkpoint' strategy is useless. Much like the tactic of sending tanks with no infantry support to wander around waiting for an rpg round. If the FSA had better support Assad would be gone by now.

All I can think of is that I sure as hell dont want to die in a firefight.. Imagine the horror as you get shot once, twice or thrice and if you dont die instantly you might have time to think about your life, everything you havent done, your children and so on.. Maybe thats what would have happened if Assad didn't go around shooting at protesters. Arresting thousands of people. Torturing activists and massacring civilians. I think most of Syria is past democracy, everyone seems to be fighting for survival. THey know if they lose, their community will be destroyed.
