Great post man. Anyone else notice the outrageous turning circles on these aircraft? Dogfights must have been awesome to watch - especially from the ground during the battle of Britain.

Nope..Packard V-1650. An improved version of the RR Merlin design built by Packard.
No doubt the RR design was excellent but needed modern assembly line approach plus some improvements notably to supercharger.

At first I was excited to see what looked like a Bf109 coming in! Then I saw it was just one of those Spanish-built "Messerschmitts" with a ROLLS-ROYCE engine and NOT a proper Daimler-Benz German engine. I can't complain though...two miles from me is a flying Bf109E with the correct engine...wanna hear a REAL 109? Check THIS baby out:

The P51 has always sounded like a screaming banshee-wonderful sound! All these aircraft though are fantastic designs from the same era and all deserve top spot for all they accomplished.
