Every 4 years or so, there is a mass protest and attempt to overthrow the United States Constitution , obliterate our Republic, and establish a progressive socialist "democracy" led by a select aristocracy (remember Camelot?)
Most Americans today do not know why the electoral college was selected to be the most effective method to provide an equal share of the government to ALL people across our great nation.
If the democratics are ever successful (and they are progressively succeedi More..

ps ... the total population of the few megalopolises of the coasts (NewYork,L.A.,Frisco,Miami,etc) vastly outnumbers the total population of the remaining 90% of the United States.
If they can control who votes or for whom they vote in these megalopolises (simple to do in a population that survives only through govt handouts) they control the entire nation.

@angeldelamort Is that why according to new Republican voter ID guidelines, *firearms ID is acceptable* while student ID *is not?*
Is that all part of the conspiracy to shift votes to the evil liberal cities? :)
It's funny, you accuse liberals of having their hands dirty while being up to the elbows in bullshit and election fraud yourselves. "Strategic Allied Consulting" sound familiar? :) :)

False. But not for the reason people might think.
The United States holds an indirect election for president as outlined in the Constitution. Technically, most voters don't vote for the candidate at all. Instead, they vote for the slate of electors who will represent their state at the Electoral College. Those electors, in turn, have pledged to vote for the candidate who wins the state. Since there are 538 members elected to the Electoral College every presidential election, that is how many Am More..

It's amazing how many voters don't understand this, especially the young, who no longer take a single civics course.

What's more, the simplistic approach to elections is so deeply ingrained in kids that if and when they are taught about the electoral college, many are confused and can't make it out at all.

@john1054 Oh yeah. Forgot about that bastard system. That's what got Bush into the white house. It's such a weird system and it's not mentioned much in the media. I guess people see it as just a formality that doesn't really change anything. So people don't care because they assume that the real votes will be represented. Kind of changes the notion of democracy in the US though.

Yep.... and I can't help but think that is by design.

@EventHorizon2012
It was absolutely by design. The delegates of the Constitutional Convention made it very clear they did not like the idea of direct election of the President. Also, the smaller states insisted they would not agree to the Constitution unless the Electoral College was designed so that they would have a slightly greater influence than would be provided strictly by population.
Technically, the Constitution does not give individual voters the right to vote for president at all. R More..

I disagree, Big Lou. There is a third candidate who is on the ballot in 48 states... Libertarian candidate, Gary Johnson.
Despite the fact that I already embrace many Libertarian values, I'm giving my vote to Johnson as much for the purpose of sending a message of challenge to the two-party system as anything else.
I know that Johnson will never win, but anything that moves us closer to a viable third party will be a vote well spent... for me at least.
And I won't have the More..

@EventHorizon2012 YES I DID. i went ape shit with the AK, while my nephew chewed up targets with the m4. I will look into Mr Johnson because thats how i feel. One Sub par guy for another. We need to have more choice. Now more than ever. I like a lot about Ron Paul but not everything about him. Somthing has to change here or we are going to be in for some real shit. And a lot of these guys here from other contries dont relize we will take the global economy down with us.

Just curious, but what will a poll like this show? In a two party system...and with most viable candidates shut out due to absurd requirements.
You have to be a millionaire to legitimately run for PotUS
