Ferrari damages ancient Chinese landmark during publicity stunt, TOURISM officials in China came under heavy criticism after allowing a Ferrari sports car to drive across an ancient Chinese landmark as part of a publicity stunt, leaving tire tracks and perhaps even permanently damaging the centuries-old site.
The car was hoisted Sunday onto the Zhonghua Gate, or Gate of China, in Nanjing, eastern China, where it performed drifts and 360 turns as part of a promotional event for a Ferrari show, Xinhua reported today.
The event left clear tire tracks on the historic gate that could not be cleaned off, the news agency reported.
The damaged section dates back to the Ming Dynasty (1368 to 1644) and was said to be the best-preserved part of the site.
Yang Guoqing, an expert on ancient city wall preservation, told Xinhua that the incident also possibly damaged the inner structure of the gate.
