upload in response to LiveLeak - Experimenting on Babies
A disturbing clip from "Psychogenic Disease in Infancy" (1952) by Rene A. Spitz, MD, depicting the deplorable 'care' for babies in 'foundling' homes (newborns abandoned for being born out of wedlock - usually by the 'grandparents')..
note; video below - treatment of females in Afghanistan
Rene A. Spitz, MD, was a very early 'LiveLeaker' for recording his research on film, and duly shocking and revamping -like no mere 'paper' would have- the child-care establishment of his day -and social norms consequently..
He did so by demonstrating, scientifically, that irreparable damage is done to these infants' development thru 'mere' lack of social interaction. And he would have gotten nowhere by making an 'appeal to emotion'; however we may find such a study no less superfluous than such an appeal.
People today are hardly aware how commonplace it was for an infant to be ignored/neglected by his (and especially her) own parents, let alone orphanages and foundling homes.
In other words, when we are appalled by such lack of compassion, it's entirely due to such contributions, as this man's life's work, finding their way into our own upbringing.
Alas, many commentators mistakenly assumed he was conducting an experiment, he wasn't, he was documenting the everyday, normal 'care', all such 'foundlings' were subjected to.
But the fact that Spitz was an American, let alone a Jew, is more than enough for some cretins to vilify the man, and the US and of course, the Jewish people, drawing comparisons to Mengele et al..
Here's my own 2bit story, for whatever it's worth;
Some 15 yrs ago, in a village in Cameroon, I witnessed such 'dereliction' by the mothers themselves -one such newborn would cry for hours on end and at times it peaked in this utter 'rage' - the 'rage' of life itself, so shockingly loud it was, it seared me..
Why/how could they? Because when infant mortality is almost a given, you just CAN'T bond or become attached and vested in such a precarious gift; it's too much to bear and doesn't make sense..
Then one evening, the 7-8 yr girl that sometimes attended to this baby, discovered its cold body and startled the village with her screams. They rushed over, but upon realizing what had happened, they came down on her with 'et alors?' (-so what?), 'so she's dead.. -what of it?' And that was it.
Not hard to guess the lesson she learned that night, nor the kind of mothering she would, in turn, provide...
-------
To this end, in Rene A. Spitz's name, I'm uploading this clip depicting the devastating present-day 'norms' in Afghanistan.
Question is, what's more shocking; the reprehensible treatment of females in such societies or the fact that our upbringing alone is what keeps us from considering such depravity perfectly normal?

Upbringing alone forms the notion of what is "depravity" and what is normal. It is only within a system that defines "such depravity" that it IS depraved. Outside of the system, it is not. It is not a matter of being brought up to RECOGNIZE the FACTUAL depravity of things. It is a matter of being brought up to judge things in certain ways. Judgments which are, in actual fact, unnecessary.
Sensitivity is praised by sensitive individuals. But just imagine being FREE of all th More..
