a classic British Rail Educational Training Film from 1960 extolling the virtues of correct parcels and container stowage to make the job easier.. this was still some years away from Containerisation and at a time when British Rail was the major mover of parcels and freight around the country. It was soon to lose it's dominance to road borne collection and delivery. This film has the late 1950's and early 1960's written all over it. At the time Rail and Portering staff were encouraged to attend these films under the 'Improvement Scheme' in their own time and at their own expense.
warning; if in the first few seconds you don't like what you see you are well advised to hit that back-button as fast as your machine will allow, this is a long film and is really only for the admirer of the genre...

Wonderful film. I retired as a Window clerk in our post office, I also worked for a time in the parcel sortation section so this brings back a lot of good memories. I have this thing about respecting men who are sometimes referred to as holding "menial" jobs. I think those jobs are as essential as any other and the men who do them with due diligence deserve our respect!

I knew you'd like this one dh, esp knowing you spent a lot of time in this particular industry - great stuff!

So does the gov still run the parcel service? I always wonder how it turns out when the gov thinks it can do a better job of things. Wonderful old film, thanks for the enjoyment Mr Cleaner!

thanks marc, glad you liked this old film. what's left from this industry still delivers all the regular mail and some parcels freight but private companies have moved in (like UPS, TNT, Fed Ex etc) It was well over-manned as an industry and helped create problems for itself, sometimes the Union's didn't help!
one bugbear that remains is while the Royal Mail continues to be the the No1 Mail Carrier it's possible to post a letter from one end of the UK to any other remote part quite cheaply and More..

@thecleaner001 Good to hear from you! Sounds like it suffered from the maladies of all bureaucracies.
"the Union's didn't help" Yes isn't it sad that an organisation that is originated to help the workers almost always turns into something that ruins the business or sometimes the industry itself.
I'll look forward to those other films. Thanks for the effort pal it is much appreciated! Cheers!
