Finnish news anchor Kimmo Wilska was fired today for, well, drinking on the job today. As he was reading the English news for YLE, the Finnish national news broadcasting company, he "accidentally" was caught on camera sipping on a beer!
Wilska was reporting on misconduct of bars selling alcohol and decided to play a practical joke, though the executives at YLE were not laughing: within hours he was told that he would not be working for the broadcasting company again.
Wilska is a freelancer journalist, but has been working for YLE (among other employers) for 25 years. He's also an activist for "a more humanitarian drug policy in Finland" and a active member f.e in a campaign to legalize cannabis.
Wilska himself stated that he doesn't regret this at all at a interview to Uusi Suomi.

He was obviously faking a sip and was making a point related to the story. Joke that wasn't funny, yes. Reason to fire, probably not. Being a goofy looking grizzly adams type is more of a reason to fire him.

Biggest, strongest man I ever met in construction was a Finn, even the guy's hair and fingernails were a few mil thicker than a normal humans. He was just fucking huge, like someone dropped the HULK into a vat of bleach.

you can't actually drink alcohol on tv in the US. The station loses its broadcast license. Perhaps it's the same in Finland.

no, not sure...I just remember a show which Michelob had sponsored and the hosts would raise a glass but never drink it. The explanation was that they were not allowed to actually drink due to broadcast restrictions.
