Sheriff Joe Arpaio turned 80 today. Most people have retired by that age, but the sheriff has no intentions of slowing down.
The sheriff says his age is a non-issue, and he always makes it clear he does not like it when opponents try to use his age against him.
"All these critics are going to talk about he's 80 years old, can't do the job. I'll outgun them anytime, all these people," said Arpaio.
And the sheriff has no patience for those who question his ability.
"I am not a lame duck for the next four years. I will continue to be the sheriff as long as I can do the job for the people."
At his party, he chatted with longtime friends and colleagues, and even raced go-karts.
"You can be 80 and still be healthy and happy and working," says the sheriff's wife Eva Arpaio. "I don't even think of him as 80, I think of him as 60."
As is usually the case, protesters gathered outside the sheriff's party. They also delivered a cake to his office.
With 80 candles lit, they sang happy birthday and left the cake.
The sheriff later posted a picture with the cake. He added a miniature version of his immigration enforcement truck.
"The more they go after me the more I am going to keep running for sheriff. I am not going to have a slice, I am not that stupid, unless I have my security taste it first."
In case you were wondering who paid for the party, everyone who attended pitched in.
