The only western weapons <vehicles and mainly small arms> were those taken from the Nationalist forces who fled to Taiwan and are the legitimate government of China, its been Russia that was supplying him with tanks and aircraft all along, weapons he used on his own people yet they still kept feeding the beast.
Mao was a rebel that slaughtered all that got in the way and it was only through absolute terror that he seized power. Approximately 80 million died in the 60's and its unknown how More..

My father told me in great detail- and he was in military intelligence at the time concerned with China - that the revolution was actually a progressive forced debt relief exercise.
At each village in turn the PLA rounded up the land-owners and held a public event. The PLA basically said kill these guys and you will own your own land. In most cases the peasants complied and the landowners were killed.
This turned out to be one very cheap revolution.

@DEADBEEF Often it wasn't as simple as just killing them....lots of unpleasant tortures were used on the 'rank opportunists' and landowners

A sad day. Trading one tyranny for an even worse one.
Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

And then the slaughter began...This was another revolution 'backed' by Western guns and money...

@ElegantDecline No it wasnt, it was a revolution backed by Soviet guns and money, Western arms and money were used to back up the Nationalists but Chiang Kai Shek proved to be such an inept commander that the US withdrew its aid by 1948.
Nationalists then fled to Taiwan where they remain to this day.

No, Soviet supplies didn't come to China until Korean war began in 1950.
