  • Such a bad ass plane to this day. Time to pull out my old Jarre CD's albeit the version played here was a remix.

  • Absolutley and positively the most awesome plane to date. Would love to go up in a Blackbird one day, but this will have to suffice until that time. Skunk Works make the best rides period.

  • Man this plane still stuns me in it's beauty and performance. What an amazing bird.

    • I'd add in the U2, another Skunkworks project. The A-10 was designed to have the shit kicked out of it and still survive to take out its target. They're all in the Hall of Fame for aircraft design.

  • at the start of the video i thought:

It's close to midnight and something evil's lurking in the dark
Under the moonlight, you see a sight that almost stops your heart
You try to scream but terror takes the sound before you make it
You start to freeze as horror looks you right between the eyes
    You're paralyzed

'Cause this is thriller, thriller night!...

  • There is one you can see up close at the Air Museum in Tucson next to Davis-Monthan airbase.

It's in a hanger and you can walk right up to it, go underneath it....
Worth the trip just to see that plane...

    • I have seen it when it was still jsut under a large tent (1999?). It always amazes me the scale of these things. They actually seem smaller to me in person. Same with the F-14 they had there.

    • There was one at Wright-Patterson AFB museum in Dayton, Ohio. Not sure if it is still there.

    • 100% agreed about the size. I was actually very surprised because it seemed a LOT smaller than it looks in pics. Same with the couple B-52's out back...commercial jets look bigger.

Anyway...The SR-71 is now displayed in one of the hangars. It's gear is down and sits on stands, so one can walk underneath. They have an engine displayed, as well as a cockpit and flight suits. This was Jan 2009 when I was there.

  • Some of this is obvious animation. Other than that the p/c directing the aircraft out of the hanger had no wands (not likely). The US Art Farce (or Chair Force) strikes again, claims victory......
