PHOENIX - Disagreements among Arizona Tea Party groups have some calling for a boycott against a law meant to help them.

The law centers around new license plates featuring the Tea Party's "Don't tread on me" logo, the Gadsden flag. The plates raise money for the Tea Party, but only by adding more positions in Arizona's government. That expansion of government has some Tea Partiers upset.
"The Tea Parties are about less government, not more government,” Daisy Mountain Tea Party Patriots leader Vera Anderson said. “This [law] created an agency for the state with a board of 13 people to administer money."
For those who want one, on top of normal license fees, the plates cost an extra $25 a year, with $17 of that going to Tea Party friendly organizations.
Even though the money would benefit her organization, Anderson says she would never compromise her political principles.
"Absolutely not!” she said. “From the very beginning I expressed my opinion that this was not a good idea."
Mountain View Tea Party leader Courtney Snell thinks the plate has good intentions and should be embraced even if a few new government appointments are made.
"It provides the funds. It gets the idea of the Tea Party out there. The advertising coming from the plate and what it says is something people will think about each time they see it,” Snell said. “If I want a 'Don't tread on me' license plate, that's up to me if I want to spend the money or not."
Anderson showed off a possible mutual option for their vehicles that could end the disagreement. She says a freely designed Tea Party front-plate could get their message across, raise money, and prevent an increase in government.
Both Tea Party leaders made it clear that they were speaking on behalf of their personal feelings, and not of every member of their Tea Party organizations.
If the front-plate option catches on among Arizona Tea Partiers, it could be available soon.
