Come on guys. Snow and ice. Someone should have been securing the base of that ladder.

This should be a training video for all new firemen. I hope they were not seriously hurt.

How come firefighters don't know how to secure a ladder, seems like the very first things they'd do. Not that the house had much of a chance anyway, it would have burned to the ground hole in the roof or no hole.

I used to be a firefighter. You're not supposed to climb a ladder at all unless someone has secured the foot. Icy or not it doesnt matter. Placing it on concrete instead of dirt was also dumb. This is a textbook example of how not use and climb a ladder while fighting fire.

Not sure I'm on board with the title description. I wonder how many could be persuaded to climb a ladder to a flat roof with a giant saw running on a warm sunny day, never mind a steep snowy pitch with flames everywhere. Definitely missed a couple of safety steps though, but hats off to firefighters everywhere. Brave folks.

@Jimmys Down The title description was spot on. There are several "firefighter fails" in this video.

@jaguar3d/fuandyourgoat I get where you guys are coming from. I guess I didn't properly convey my angle. To be sure, a Ladder 101 refresher is in order. For me personally, I have great respect for these folks. I don't care for the whole "FAIL" thing anyway. For me it just doesn't belong in the same sentence with FF, that's all. Course that's just my opinion. I could be wrong. :-)

I don't know. I've sat through many a class where they tell you not to step on the top rung of a ladder.
Why was the second guy not at the bottom where he belonged?
Safety fail.

This is all very odd. Doesn't firefighting involve, like, spraying water on the burning house?

4:1 angle ratio for ladders.
If you cant have that, OR IF ITS ON FUCKING ICE, get an anchor at the base.

@piyoti yeah... you'd think somebody would be at the bottom holding the ladder. once you step above the roof-line it becomes a lever.
