Halifax Anti-Free-Trade Protest
HALIFAX - Organizers of a protest that turned violent on the streets of Halifax said yesterday they were delighted with the media attention they received.
Police used tear gas Friday to disperse protesters outside a downtown conference on a proposed free trade zone for eastern Canada and the northeastern United States.
Twenty-one people were arrested after some of the protesters smashed windows and threw rocks and light bulbs filled with paint. More than 70 charges were laid.
