Taliban assault on Kandahar government complex repelled

NATO claims the Taliban attack on key government offices in Kandahar is now over. Those involved in the offensive have been either killed or captured, it says.

A spokesperson for the alliance said the two-day coordinated onslaught on the Taliban's former stronghold was largely ineffective.

NATO came under fire from rocket-propelled grenades and had to combat suicide bombers during the battle.

At least 25 Taliban are reported dead with four taken into custody. Two members of the Afghan security forces and one civilian were also killed.
