Overrated. The French wine is overrated, other countries such as Switzerland, Italy, or Greece have similar cheese cultures, and the Rafale, that one I don't know.

@The_linguist dassault has always given the world very beautiful and very capable canard aircraft.
for a very long time people thought the f-16 or mig29 were the premier close in fighting aircraft. perhaps the quiet and more likely holder of this title would be the mirage2000

when it comes to within visual range fights. the rafale is better than the other eurocanards. it's better than the americans f-22 and it's better than what anything from the east is putting out.
it's design and HOTAS system is beautiful. the eurofighter comes close with it's flight envalope in the context to WVR too

Rafale plane is shit! Nobody wants to buy them; they're too fucking expensive to buy & to service, to fragile to manipulate, too fucking French if you ask me.
The world's best jet fighter is obviously the F/A-22 Raptor but at what cost? And to do what with it since there's no other plane to fight it!

The only problem with this plane, is it doesn't maneuver well at slow speeds. All the opposing plane has to do is slow down in a turn, and shoot it out of the sky. That's the downside with cannard's. and the technology is way out of date compared the U.S jets. Rafale's electronic warfare system is the Spectra from Thales. Spectra incorporates solid state transmitter technology, a DAL laser warning receiver, missile warning, detection systems and jammers.

don't worry about it. you obviously don't have any sort of authority to talk on such matters.
i know this because i actually did 5 years of aerospace engineering.
the eurocanard design allows the aircraft to get more from it's flight envalope than say a f-22, f-16, f-18 or anythign else coming out of the usa.
had the US not gone for all aspect stealth they would too probably be flying a delta canard aircraft.
the rafale is actually the best aircraft to have in the world for wh More..

@yourboss Really because I'm an aerospace engineer. You did it, but you don't anymore. Where did you work? I'm employed at Lockheed Martin. The canard is terrible at low speed cornering. That's why we abandoned the idea of it. The F-22, JSF-35, and CIA YF-23 are all faster, more maneuverable, and stealth. You cant shoot what you cant see. Was spelling not required at your college?

@xerodfx i was at the university of manchester, UK for 4 years and UC Berkely 1 year. none of that subtracts from the fact you're completely wrong.
canards add to the total lift, enabling the execution of extreme maneuvers, improving low-speed handling and lowering the landing speed.
coupled with HOTAS the delta canard design allows the rafale and even more so, the eurofighter typhoon to be more controllable at slower speeds more so than the f-22.

@xerodfx i have to say that the f35 wouldn't stand a chance in WVR combat with even an older typ2 f-18. which would out turn and out accelerate the f-35. same can be said for the f-16.
basically the f-22 and f35 will cruise about at high speed and high alt and kill people froma long way off using some extremely impressive sensors. however, this doesn't subtract from the fact a eurocanard is a better design for 'turning and burning'.
the f-35 would get its ass kicked by any of the new modern More..
