Bill Maher Stands by Comments About Being Worried Islam Taking Over the World: “I Don’t Need To Apologize For Being A Proud Westerner”…

Bill Maher showed up on CNN to talk about comments he made on Real Time regarding the ‘alarming’ number of ‘baby Mohammeds’ in England. Maher told Wolf Blitzer that he felt no need to “apologize for being a proud Westerner,” or for being worried that “Muslim people in these [Western] societies are having babies” at a faster clip than non-Muslims.

He clarified:

And when I say Westerner, I mean someone who believes in the values that Western people believe in that a lot of the Muslim world does not. Like separation of church and state. Like equality of the sexes. Like respect for minorities, free elections, free speech, freedom to gather. These things are not just different from cultures that don’t have them. … It’s better. … I would like to keep those values here.

Maher feared that “we can project ahead” to the possibility of England “losing those values.” While he and Blitzer didn’t discuss the Sharia law issue that arose Friday night, they did discuss another topic that had come up during the same conversation: whether Maher would’ve been fired from NPR, as Juan Williams had been, if he worked there. “Probably,” Maher said. Here, the two seemed to agree.

Here’s what he originally said:

Those who accuse the once libertarian Bill Maher of becoming too much of a liberal apologist might want to clean their ears. Maher made a Juan Williams-esque confession on his program when he apprehensively noted that Mohammed has just become the most popular baby name in Britain. “Am I a racist to feel alarmed by that?” Maher asked his panel. “Because I am. And it’s not because of the race, it’s because of the religion. I don’t have to apologize, do I, for not wanting the Western world to be taken over by Islam in 300 years?”

  • 300 years?

...try 30 years if Muslims had their way.

    • As much as a hate and despise Meiher for the Liberal scumbag that he is, I have to agree %100 with him on this one.

But what he does not mention, and probably he does so in purpose given that he's an atheist, is that Western Civilization is what it is today because of Christianity itself. THere is no doubt that Christian Values had a role in shaping what Europe and America are today. But Maher being an anti Christian, atheist, liberal and a leftist won't say that.

    • I think he would say that JS. He's half Jewish, and half Christian (not in the literal sense, because that's impossible, but one parent is a Jew, one Catholic). I doubt he thinks his parents are bad people. And, he has integrity. Anybody with integrity must acknowledge that western civilization was steered to it's present form, by JudeoChristian values. It's undeniable.

He'd argue that we should move forward, evolve, but I very much doubt he'd deny reality on that issue. I really like Maher, ev More..

  • Maher hates all religions. He's just careful to express his hatred one religon at a time.

    • He does. But, he deserves credit for it. I've always said this about him. Other liberals are anti-religion, until it comes time to discuss Islam. He's not.

People like Galloway go on his show expecting a sympathetic host, and they get trashed because they expected to be coddled when they bring up their pro-Islam bs. His documentary Religulous, it gave equal time trashing Islam.

That's one thing that sets Maher above practically anybody else who you might otherwise consider to be his peers. He More..

      Thanks for saying it, too..
It's nice to see that SOME ideas are universal.. among thinking people, anyway.

    I like what he says.

  • It's just not true. The top 5 babies names for boys in the UK are:

    1. Jack.
    2. Harry.
    3. Alfie.
    4. Thomas.
    5. Oliver.

    Ref:

    http://www.baby-names-guide.co.uk/top-baby-names-2010.php

Also, the Muslim population of the UK makes up just 2.7% of the total.

    • I'd like to hear an British woman screaming out "Ohhhh Alfie" or "Ohhhhh OLIVER" in that killer British accent one time while she is being pounded by one of these lads in about 18-20 years. LOL!!

    • Read this article carefully:

      http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1324194/Mohammed-popular-baby-boys-ahead-Jack-Harry.html

Mohammed IS the most popular baby name in the U.K. The article points out that "Mohammed" has numerous variations in its spelling (Muhammed, Mouhammed, etc), and when they are all combined, it IS the most popular baby name.

    • Sorry, but I don't believe a word the Daily Mail writes. It is well known over here for telling lies, and distorting the truth. Ask yourself how can 2.7% of the population hold the majority? Answer is, of course, they can't!

    • You have to think carefully about what we're talking about here. No one is saying that the total number of babies born to muslims is greater than the total number of babies born to non-muslims. Jack, Harry, Alfie, Thomas, and Oliver are not the only names non-muslims in the UK use to name their babies.

But what is truly worrisome is birthrates, not baby names. I would suggest googling "united kingdom muslim birth rates". I looked at a couple of articles there that talk about the More..

    • The birth rate of Muslims or any other group is of no concern to me. When people from the Caribbean came over here in the 50's & 60's people said that we would be flooded with them, yet today they make up just 2% of the UK population. Where I live there has been Muslims for as long as I can remember, and their numbers are also fairly constant. This whole thing is a storm in a teacup.

  • Bill is probably right. Today's generation is total mush. Doesn't take much to mold their minds. And it doesn't take 15 years anymore to brainwash an entire generation. Keep feeding them their ipods, iphones and plastic cards.

  • See, this is what free speech brings people, knowledge, Not much I agree w/Bill Maher on but he hits this one right on the head, must make libs squirm when one of their own talks like this, yes many of the policies that Bill supports leads directly to the problems their having in Britain but he has never been one to back away from a controversial statement, good or bad,,, remember you learn nothing from someone who always agrees with you

    Posted Nov-2-2010 By

  • Ironically, the same liberal and leftist policies that he endorses and supports, are the cause why Great Britain and much Europe are in such poor state of dipair. There is no doubt that German women have fewer babies, if any at all, because they're enjoying themselves, being promicuous as contrasted to having children, a husband and a family is not for them, in essence those are leftist/liberal principles.

In our Western societies, families are seen as an liability rather than a comodity, a n More..

  • indeed. It's a terrible misconception to think the left wing is somehow ideologically tied to embracing or tolerating the loss of western culture.
I hardly think Muhammad is the most popular name for newborns in the UK. They are a tiny part of the population, those statistics look rigged
