  • the bench press is one of the most unsafe and lamest exercises ever, as we see time and time again even with spotters around the risk of injury is pretty high. looking good and being strong is great, but its not worth having a steel bar loaded with weight crash down on your throat or face while you are trying to lift, in this case it destroyed all his internal organs

and the saddest part is heave weight lifting isnt even practical. like those who want to do tons of weight on bench press, do you More..

What a troll... More people die from brick falling from the building while walking down the street then bench press. As a matter a fact, this is first time i see something like this and I am in gym 7,8 years.

Don't be a dick if you can't be strong like weight lifter. And saying, I would never like to be that strong, is just a pure bullshit.

Bullshit. I lifted weights competitively for years and I've never seen anything like this. Those spotters did not have a chance. When you spot a person there is an unspoken agreement that you are both in this together. Both the spotter and the lifter have responsibilities. I'm not sure what this lifter did wrong, but he absolutely did something terribly wrong that no spotter could anticipate.

  • they need to come up with two adjustable steel safety cables that are bolted directly to the floor and up a steel pulley that is bolted to the bench unit somewhere when dealing with this kind of weight. You hook the cables on the weight bar with no weights bring it down to your chest and adjust the cable so it will stop the weight from hitting your chest. This design should on all bench presses. Look at those spotters... sweaty hands, not paying attention. Sad deal. Thats too much weight without More..

  • They need to redesign those bench with some kind of guard rail to make sure if it drop the weight that it stop before hitting the chest of the athlete.

  • That is some shocking spotting right there.

They should be tried for manslaughter, fucking morons

    • @cwockANDbwalls So what you're saying is that it is never worth being a spotter because you can then be charged with manslaughter? So I'm right as usual when I say that HUMAN INTERACTION IS THE NUMBER ONE CAUSE OF INCARCERATION. It's BETTER to just stay home and away from people right? You're FAR LESS likely to go to jail if you just avoid interaction with other humans.

Thanks for justifying the things I say online because people doubt me all the time.™

    • @nirv

I'm guessing these 'spotters' were hired to do a job, they failed at this job and caused serious injury possibly even killed a guy, and therefore are accountable for what happened financially and legally.

If they were not professionals and just his friends the victims family would probably have no recourse.

So you can lock yourself away from society in a cupboard if you want but if you decide to be normal and are hired to do something (especially if someones life is in your hands) make More..

    • @nirv Actually, you can go to jail for things you say on line, especially things like "HUMAN INTERACTION IS THE NUMBER ONE CAUSE OF INCARCERATION." Do you hear the helicopters yet? They're coming...

  • OMG!!!

so scary !one of the reasons I dont use a bar lifting heavy... I use 130-140lb dumbbells so if anything goes wrong they go off to the sides..... damn thats horrible

    • @aa316
You work out with 130-140lb dumbbells? Jesus you must be a monster.

I'm pretty strong at 180lbs and use the 85s for sets.

    • @fammin I use to be able to do 150lb dumbbells 2 sets of 5-6 reps. then go lower 120lb db's for my last set with higher reps

I have never maxxed out on any of my lifts so I have no clue how heavy I can lift. Ive been lifting for 25 yrs! Started when I was 13-14yrs old

I have never lifted a weight less that 5-6 reps either when I train heavy my entire life. At my strongest:
      -bench 150lb dumbbells (5-6 reps)
      -squat 500lbs (5-6 reps)
      - leg press 1100/1200 lbs (can do 10-12 reps)
      - calf press vari More..

I havn't lifted less or more than 5 reps for over a year and half, seen strength go up, but still skinny...

Thats impressive lifts you got right there

    • @aa316 You say you lift these weights as if it were normal... Lol. I've worked out for 4 years, don't get even close to you're lifting weight but I look pretty well. Then again, I don't drink protein, creatine, NO xplode, no anabolics, steroids or fat burners. Ive got by with 200+ grams of protein from food. So you must be enormous then. My bad... hadn't read you've been working out for 25 years... Respect. I look up to people like yourself. I started when I was 16 btw.

  • I designed a cage to put over the chest area, just for this very reason, my brother passed away the same way. I gave the idea away for free to anybody to use? You can find it in the U.S. patent website. So sad young healthy man to die like this. Please be careful.
