21-05-1982. Lt Guillermo Owen Crippa, a young Argentine Fleet Air Arm pilot, was
tasked as No 2 of an armed patrol from Stanley airfield shortly after
sun-up. The other Aermacchi jet trainer became unserviceable, so Crippa
launched on his own. Near Jersey Point he spotted a Royal Navy Lynx
helicopter, but as he pulled up to dive on it, he also sighted the
‘enemy’ invasion force anchored in San Carlos Water. Crippa broke off,
reported his discovery of the British to his controller in Stanley – and
then announced his intention to attack. At low level and high speed he
emerged from the radar shadow of Fanning Head, and fired all his podded
Zuni rockets at HMS ARGONAUT. Crippa then engaged a RFA stores ship
with his 30 mm cannons, and before exiting the combat zone, took notes on
the number and types of ship sheltering in San Carlos Water.

Finally the Argentinian lost this war, but they fought very hard especially the pilots.
In my opinion, the Falkland/Malvinas should remain british if the people of the islands want to be british. They want.

The Malvinas belong to Argentina, take a look at a map, Britain has plenty of other islands down there, they can get fucked and hand them over. I've read into this and I support Agrentina 100%.

@MrRolLexus The Falklands have been British since before the state of Argentina has existed as a country, and will remain that way as long as the people who live there want it to be.

@MrRolLexus Hundreds of people had "disappeared" under the Junta's rule. And you think the Falkland Islanders wanted to be governed by a fascist military dictatorship?

FAIL !
He should have dropped the chopper as the Brits were short on early warning. Why was straffing ships atennas his preferred choice ?
You were first in, get the kill.

@Airedale Reason they were short on early warning is that the 'Argies' came in low and used the hills above San Carlos Bay as a shield to the British radar. By the time they were aware they were being attacked it was too late.

@LickyLicky
problem with that was by the time the A-4's got to the islands, the canopy had a 1 inch layer of salt build up and when they returned to home field, the pilots had to open the canopy and stick their heads out the window.
Not that I was hoping the Brits would be defeated, we helped them bounce jets from England all the way to the war zone. We knew the outcome

@Airedale I'm sure the assistance given by the US will never be forgotten and especially the help with refueling ships and aircraft at Ascension Island.

Reading 'The Forgotten Voices of the Falklands' by Hugh McMannners. It's a cracking good read from those who took part.
