BRITISH Army medics saved the life of a ten-year-old Afghan boy who walked into their base with a KNIFE sticking out his head, it was revealed yesterday.
He had been stabbed while bravely trying to protect his shopkeeper dad from an outraged customer in Kandahar.
The three-inch blade was embedded in his brain after narrowly missing one of his eyes.
Amazingly, the lad was still able to walk.
Medics gave him first aid before a helicopter flew him to the tented military field hospital at Camp Bastion for X-rays and an operation.
Major Stephen Gallacher, 49, said: “It was a horrendous sight.
“To pull the knife out would have been a disaster because you wouldn’t know what damage was behind it.”
The incident last year was revealed as 50 members of the 208 Field Hospital, based in Liverpool, received medals for their three-month tour of duty in Afghanistan.
