RYNO One Wheeled Motorcycle.

Jet-Pack? Who needs one of those, when you could get one of these... It speaks for its self. Pretty innovative and I can't wait to get one! This is how I have always envisioned the future.

  • I hate to be a killjoy (theres enough of them on here already) but you would only have to walk out in front of the guy once at 15+ MPH to show the ain limiting factor of this invention. (or, demonstrate why the top speed of this unicycle will need to be limited to a speed low enough to make it much less of an exciting concept)

No amount of ballast is going to counteract the forward roll that will happen in a sudden braking situation with that design.

Segways suck in a similar way, (search for More..

I've done some segway simulations, and have seen many of the fail vids. Half the fails are humans attempting the impossible. And most of the rest to do with the PID tuning (like you said about leaning too far back, and the PID control algorithm over-compensates.) These problems can be pretty much fixed by using a fuzzy controller, or better still a neuro-fuzzy controller.

    • @Teslagraaf I buy the idea that Segways could be improved if they were 'smarter', but the problem with this vehicle is still that you have a lot of inertia, the rider weight is high up above the center of gravity, and the rider is firmly attached to the seat/handlebars, and can't shift their weight as effectively as on a segway.
So the inertia will always be converted to a forward roll on heavy braking. You can compensate by adding ballast inside the wheel, and shifting that ballast backwards wh More..

You do know the way an inverted pendulum type machine like these is stopped or slowed is by increasing the wheelspeed, not decreasing it. This moves the wheel forward in relation to the center of gravity. That's what counteracts the forward inertia.

If the motor had enough torque and response, and the controller is tuned well and runs at a high enough frequency, you could clothesline the rider and it would still stay balanced. Remember there's also a counter-torque applied to the mass More..

  • $346,000 for research, time and technology on figuring out how to keep the bike from tipping forwards or backwards. Easily solved by the addition of another wheel.

    • @rugbybloke25 There are a few alternative energy builders on LL chat room. If you have time, research rocket mass fuel heater/stove.
