    • @ComradeAgopian The term itself "Islamophobia" is a bit funny. A phobia, is an irrational fear. Now while some poeple are afraid of muslims, or of Islam, it can coem out in a number of ways. While it is typical schoolyard behaviour to accuse people of being afraid if they don't like something, and that mentality is used in national politics as well, I feel that it can be said accurately, that the people who use the term "Islamophobia" the most a bit afraid of muslims.

I feel that the Libyans are making a highly concerted effort to break away from their past and move forward and at the same time dealing with the Islamist presence that has suddenly sprouted, particularly in the east of the country near and in Benghazi.

      history can repeat. the taliban did not rule afghanistan after the Soviets pulled out. there was a vacuum filled by a loose confederation of many minority groups.
      Talibs leveraged them out in various ways in due time.

    • @Airedale Good point. But there are a number of factors that would make that unlikely to happen. Let me lay it out generally.

      Libya is a wealthy country due to its oil and in time will invest in itself wisely, particularly in health and education. This will take some time though but there are some pretty smart leaders in government now. On the other hand, Afghan was not a wealthy nation at the time the Soviets left.

  • Although a couple of good points were made, I am tired of the word "Islamophobia" being thrown around. People have a DAMN good reason to fear Islam. It is the fault of Islamic radicals who perpetrate acts of violence and violent rhetoric. It is also the fault of the majority of moderate muslims who remain silent about it.
