Well they didn't have cellphones, computers, or cable TV. So on the weekend or on a nice day everyone would flock to the beach.

I remember the Fun House at the Lagoon in Farmington, Utah had some rides like those back in the 60s. Things like the turning barrels and spinning floor discs. You don't see them anymore though. Probably became liability issues because of people slamming heads with each other. I know as a kid I did. Of course, it was simply take an aspirin and rest a bit - not all the sue-happy shit we see now.
