Dudayev was killed on April 21, 1996, by two laser-guided missiles when he was using a satellite phone, after his location was detected by a Russian reconnaissance aircraft.After his death various places in Turkey were named after him."Şehit Cahar Dudayev Caddesi" (Martyr Dzhokhar Dudayev Street) and Şehit Cahar Dudayev Parki (Martyr Dzhokhar Dudayev Park) in Istanbul just to name a few.Bosnia,Latvia,Estonia,Ukraine,Lithuania,Poland etc have all named national monuments after Dudayev.
