In order to control or eliminate any problem, the source of the problem must be identified, controlled and/or eliminated. Such an approach to problem-solving seems patently obvious, but apparently it is not. One of the problems facing governments worldwide is how to stop the advance of militant Islam. However, relatively few people even seem capable of admitting what the source of the problem, which is Islam, let alone addressing it. By "Islam", I do mean "Islam"—not Islamic radicals or militants, nor radical Islam—but Islam in all of its guises.
On September 11, 2008, I published an article wherein I noted that:

...much of the Islamic world seems to be sliding deeper and deeper into Islamic extremism and I see no signs of anything occurring to stop the decline or the trend. For example, Lebanon, Egypt, and Pakistan will be lost to Islamic extremists within the next half century. Oil wealth continues to pour into the Middle East with the adverse effect of hurting Western economies and providing the very revenue being used to finance the advance of fundamentalist Islamic ideology throughout the world, including the United States, as well as to fund international terrorism.


It has taken seven months, but I see that the "experts" are now confirming some of my conclusions. An article by Jonathan S. Landay, writing for the McClatchy Newspapers on April 16, 2009, observed:

"A growing number of U.S. intelligence, defense and diplomatic officials have concluded that there's little hope of preventing nuclear-armed Pakistan from disintegrating into fiefdoms controlled by Islamist warlords and terrorists, posing the a greater threat to the U.S. than Afghanistan's terrorist haven did before 9/11."


As I listen to politicians and experts alike discuss the many ways they have tried to stop the spread of Islamists such as the Taliban and Islamic tribal warlords in Pakistan, I am always unnerved by the fact that they never say that the problem is the inherent nature of Islam and that if we want to stop Islamists from spreading their influence and control we must reverse Islam's influence. Yet, there is no other solution that will work in the long-run to save places like Pakistan, Lebanon, and Egypt from falling victim to total Islamist control, to prevent Europe from becoming Eurabia, and to preserve other non-Muslim cultures. Because our leaders are unwilling or unable to address the root cause of the problem, it is obvious that they seem increasingly perplexed as to how to stem the Islamists' ominous advance.

Our grandchildren's survival depends upon the recognition that Islam is such a dysfunctional religion that once it gains a certain level of control in any society that society will start a downward slide into Islamism (fundamentalist Islam) that is virtually irreversible unless draconian measures are taken.

Kamal Ataturk, the Founder of Modern Turkey, understood Islam very well and he partially, but not completely, utilized the approach I recommend. He was immensely successful and Turkey made great strides toward modernity, but he fell short just enough to allow Islam to keep enough of a foothold that, in the long-run, Turkey will backslide and also fall prey to Islamism. We are already witnessing the Islamists, albeit not fully disclosing their full Islamist agenda, gaining ground in Turkey. An Iran style revolution or something similar thereto may well be on the horizon.

In my essay entitled "Islam Caused Islamic World's Decline," I explained why Islam naturally causes any culture where it predominates to decline. The reason Pakistan is so distressed is that Islam holds such a prominent position in the culture of Pakistan. While vast segments of the society do not want to live under Islamist rule, the pervasive societal belief in Islam to one degree or another causes the populace, to one degree or another, to sympathize with the goals and beliefs of the Islamists and prevents the steps necessary to halt the Islamists' steady advance. As long as Pakistan allows oil money to fund the preaching of fundamentalist Islam and indoctrination of its youth at fundamentalist Madrassas, it is sure to generate a steady increase in Islamists just as assuredly as the steady manufacture of or importation of weapons eventually results in the acquisition of an arsenal.

Pakistan's leaders can otherwise implement many sound policies, but Islam's pernicious influence is so destructive that it is hard to maintain a functional culture when a high percentage of a nation's populace adheres to the tenets of Islam. The level at which dysfunction sets in depends upon the level of strength and sophistication of the non-Muslim population. For example, Israel can retain its high level of function despite a significant level of Muslims in its population because the non-Muslim population is strong, educated and sophisticated. Conversely, a weaker nation would suffer much more under the weight of such a significant Muslim minority population.

One of the problems in Pakistan, and throughout much of the World, is that more and more Islamists are being produced through high birth rates, indoctrination and intimidation and the percentage of Muslims to non-Muslims is rising. Since a certain percentage of Muslims become Islamists, as the Muslim population rises, there is a concurrent increase in the number of Islamists. Islamists recruit from among the "moderate" Muslim population.

Once the Islamists gain a certain level of control in any area, they then utilize the exact same techniques utilized by the man they idolize—Muhammad himself. The Islamists exploit the division and disunity of their opponents (non-Muslims and non-fundamentalist Muslims), they persuade where they can, they assassinate critics and rival leaders, and they use abject terror to pressure the trapped population to convert and/or give way to their vision of how society should be operated and controlled. Once the Islamists gain full control, competing ideologies are eradicated and their politico-religious ideology cements its grip on the minds of the populace making virtual slaves of them. At that point, only outside intervention or hundreds of years of decline can erode the fundamentalists' influence. However, as their influence wanes, the fundamentalists then become reinvigorated by their perceived moral decline of their culture and the whole Islamization process starts over again. That is why the root cause of the problem, Islam, must be contained and eliminated as much as possible.

During World War II, it was understood, for example, that to win the Battle of the Atlantic that Germany's submarines had to be destroyed at a faster pace than the German submarines destroyed Allied shipping. The current battle against Islam is a similar type of war of attrition. To win we must destroy more Islamists than are produced. It is really that simple. To slow down and eventually stop the production of Islamists, we must contain and stop Islam itself as it is Islam that produces Islamists. Simply waiting until Islamists fully mature and develop into committed Jihadists and then fighting only those Jihadists and not attacking the source of production of those Jihadists is a sure-fire plan of eventual defeat. Besides, as we have already experienced, some Islamist attacks are successful. As technology and biological warfare advances and spreads to the terrorists, eventually a small number of Islamists will be able to destroy entire non-Muslim cities or even nations and rest assured, they will not hesitate to do so. It is hard to fathom the hatred that Islam can generate for non-Muslims until one immerses himself or herself into the religion as the terrorists do, but Islam does in fact have that exact effect on its most devout adherents.

The belief that we are not at war with Islam is a foolish one that will, in the long run, allow Islam to prevail. Islam declared war on all non-Muslims in the seventh century and that war continues today. We can either let the war remain a unilateral war and lose or we can acknowledge that Islam itself is the problem and develop strategies to contain and eliminate the problem as humanely as we can. To do otherwise would be a losing strategy somewhat akin to the Battle of the Atlantic being fought solely against Germany's submarines and never attacking the source of the submarines, Germany itself, in order to halt the production of the submarines. Had the Allied powers adopted such an inherently flawed war strategy, Germany would have won WWII. Our current strategy against the Islamists is just as ignorant and misguided. While the flawed strategy is based at least in part on the laudatory belief that we must be tolerant of other peoples' beliefs, the modern age has proven that tolerating the intolerant is a luxury we can no longer afford. Biological warfare skills are spreading to thousands of people worldwide. It is only a matter of time before those skills become available to Islamic terrorists. Biological warfare is far cheaper and easier to implement than nuclear warfare but it can be just as devastating.

While it is useful for our leaders to publicly claim that we are not at war with Islam, we should not let a sound defense strategy useful only to keep the peace as much as possible deceive us into ignoring reality. We are spending vast sums of money to stop Islamists from hurting us and we have been incredibly successful considering the flawed nature of our defense. But our success is due to the inherently dysfunctional nature of Islamic civilization and the consequent differential in economic resources and technological ability possessed by more civilized nations. However, our current defense strategy is too expensive in the long-run and the strategy is failing to stop the rising tide of Islamism in much of the world nor will it prevent all future attacks using weapons of mass destruction. We are winning battles, but losing the war in the long-run. Soon we will be engulfed by a Tsunami of Islamists and terror much like the tribal areas of Pakistan.

Any chance we have of stopping the entire Islamic world from sliding deeper and deeper into Islamism and preserving our own safety and culture depends upon our realization that it is Islam itself that we must fight and we will either contain and stop the religion or all that is good will eventually be lost.

If we remain on the course we are on, Islam will steadily gain more of a foothold in Western Civilization. Eventually the inherent dysfunction generated by the Islamic faith will poison our society and our ability to resist Islam's ominous advance internally and worldwide will be diminished. How fast the process of rising Islamic influence undermining Western Civilization will proceed depends upon how successful the Islamists are in infiltrating and sabotaging Western Civilization and the birth rate differential between Muslims and non-Muslims.

It is, as many trial lawyers such as I like to say, "closing time:" Time to martial our facts and, as convincingly as possible, to try and persuade the jury as to whose cause is just. Here, the jurors are the voters in Western Nations and the first battle we face is to elect leaders that will fight the real war, the war that matters - the war against Islam's ominous advance. If we do not win the initial war at the voting booth and shift our war strategy, all will eventually be lost.

President Obama's attempts to appease Muslims and have "dialogue" with Islamists will never work in the long-run. I guarantee you that in private the Islamists laugh at his naivety.

The percentage of the World's population that is Muslim is steadily increasing and the eventual result will be similar to what happened in Medina in the seventh century, then the entire Arab Peninsula, and then all of the Middle East - Islam will dominate. It is hard to see the " big picture" when one is consumed with simply trying to make a living and raise a family. However, we are within a decade of the tipping point where there may be no turning back and sacrifices must be made. Let Pakistan's unfortunate, but predictable plight serve as a warning and wake-up call. Warn your neighbors and anyone else that will listen while there is still time. Only a determined and committed grass-roots movement will change the course we are on.

The same is true for Pakistan. The people of Pakistan will either come to realize that it is their dominant religion that is bringing about their destruction and take steps to address the problem or Pakistan's chance for a just, civilized society that can live in peace with India will be forever lost.

Finally, when you are making your choice as to how much you will speak out and how much you will participate in my proposed grass-roots movement, think about those nuclear weapons in Pakistan and what is going to happen when the Islamists gain control of them. The perceived safety and economic comfort that lulls you into a false sense of security and complacency may evaporate in an instant. Would it not be better to act now?

Our society is not perfect and we face dangers and problems unrelated to Islam. But our ability to correct our problems and resist all of the dangers we face will be undermined by the rising tide of Islam. It is a new, unexpected reality that has only become apparent to most of us sometime during the last decade. However, it is the new reality and we must unite and conduct ourselves accordingly or, as the American Founders noted at the beginning of their revolution, we will all "hang separately."
