Waterbury police are still looking for the suspect who tried to rob a store last Friday but instead was beaten with a baseball bat by the store's owner.
Around 1 p.m. Friday, a robber entered United Liquors, and demanded money.
He flashed a chrome pistol and fired a shot into the wall to show the cashier he was serious.
But Mr. Keshwala, the store owner and cashier, wasn't going to be intimidated.
He grabbed a baseball bat from behind the counter as a neighbor, Richard Riley, came inside to help.
The store owner began slugging the robber and they pushed him into a corner of the store.
During the struggle, the thief fired a second shot into the back wall.
He managed to wrest free and escaped with some cash he swiped from the cash register.
Police have checked local hospitals for the man, who was likely bleeding from the head as a result of the beating.
