Two teenagers arrested in the UK after anti-terrorism hotline hacked

BRITISH police have arrested two teens as part of an investigation into illegal recordings of conversations on Scotland Yard’s anti-terror hotline, which were later posted on Youtube.

The two boys aged 16 and 17 are being held in the West Midlands by officers from the Police Central e-Crime Unit, the UK's Daily Telegraph reports.

In the recording of the conversation, two people are heard discussing an earlier alleged attack in which a group calling themselves TeamPoison (TeaMp0isoN) apparently jammed the hotline by bombarding it with calls from computers.

TeamPoison are believed to be made up of eight members and claim to have gained unauthorised access to organisations from Facebook to the United Nations, the UK's Daily Telegraph reports.

Group members told Sky News that they used Skype and a number of proxy servers during the attack

They claimed they can listen into calls on the confidential hotline at any time and described the Metropolitan Police's security as an "illusion".

"It took no skill whatsoever. It was pretty much an in-and-out job. It was pretty much simple. They use an old phone system," a purported member of the group said.

"If we wanted to go ahead and listen to their calls, it would be easy for us. We could pretty much do it at any time and any place."

Sky News security editor Sam Kiley said the incident would "indicate a pretty catastrophic failure inside what should be the most secure environment in the country".

"This is the headquarters of the counter-terrorism police in the Metropolitan Police, responsible for counter-terrorism operations right across the country, effectively."

The Metropolitan Police insisted that their phone security had not been breached the integrity of the confidential anti-terror hotline remained intact.

  • If I´d been the kid making the call, I would be far too embarrassed to put it into the public domain. He just sounds like what he is, a silly little boy with no wit or intelligence.

    • @brian of nazareth

That's what I was thinking, and how is he supposed to have hacked the phone call exactly? He obviously just recorded it.

It's quite a sad example of immature kids being foolish tbh.

  • As I understand it they recorded a call that they made? Which is of course legal. Hacking?

    • @Argh You Obviously missed the part about TeamPoison jamming their hotline by bombarding it with calls from computers. I believe that is called hacking.

  • Smash their hands and knees with a crow bar and then ask if they think that feels like an illusion.

  • That was a very uninteresting call.

Everyone already knows the worlds internet security is complete shit.

If someone can access it, it can be hacked, why is that so hard to understand?

  • I was very surprised by the lack of skill that the hotline responders demonstrated. The government wants us to believe that "Terrorist" are a major threat to the population, yet they have under skilled personel, manning the terrorist hotline? I think the reason is, that the government knows that there really is not a terrorist threat, because they are the ones who created the terror stories. Simple. So, What do you LiveLeakers think of my theory? Be nice!
