As Uac_mitun said "open" muzzle..., war guns are not made to fire blanks, and most of the time (i never saw another good system)u need to improve the pressure when used.

Fake rounds don't cycle well in that gun apparently.

Little surprise, as the have no "Maneuverpatronengerät" attached, which the gun needs to cycle when firing blanks. Peak pressure just doesn't build up high enough with blanks and an "open" muzzle.

@Uac_mitun_ahau what is Maneuverpatronengerät ?

@PetrWarry Something you screw onto the muzzle of any given automatic weapon instead of the normal muzzle break. A projectile stops the gases behind it from escaping, hence you have enough pressure for the gun's mechanism to work. When firing blanks you don't have that, so the "Maneuverpatronengerät" reduces the amount of gas escaping from the barrel, ensuring a high enough pressure for the mechanism to work. A blank adapter or blank attachment is the term used, I guess.

@Uac_mitun_ahau aha, got it.
we call it blank firing adapteur/reduction etc.
this MG has already bolt in barrel which works like that. you can change/set up gases.
here malfunction was rather caused by low weight of plastic fired shells which stuck in ejection port

The MG42 would have had to have been re-chambered to 7.62 NATO - no issue. But how did they adapt the feed mechanism to handle - I assume - the NATO disintegrating link?

@PetrWarry
Your description says .308 Winchester plastic rounds (aka 7.62) - not 7.92

@DEADBEEF ah yes.
sorry, my mistake. some blankfirers are original 7,92 , other converted to ,308 .
in rifles 7,92 can be used blanks plastic ,308 ...but not vice versa.i've tested myself as well. only with k98.
nope you still use MG34/42 or M53 belts

Plastic blank rounds in a MG42/3 = doublefeed hell.
